Select specific articles

Post by skoegler »

Here is the purpose I want to accomplish. Please let me know whether your app can produce this.

Identify the top 10 most read articles for the previous 30 days from among selected categories and display them with Image, Intro text, readmore and author name in a format similar to a standard front page in Joomla (see example here http://screencast.com/t/bivRumbQFmA)

Also, can this be executed more than 1 time to produce multiple lists based on different criteria in the same page?

Yes, the module can do this.
You select the source (one or several categories) and set the number of articles that you're going to display in the module. Then you set date interval:30 and ordering: Popular First. That's all.

RAXO news module will display 10 most popular articles added during the last 30 days.
All the other information fields you show or hide according to your needs.

The module comes with three built-in templates and they look like this http://raxo.org/built-in-templates.html

Yes, you can have multiple lists based on different criteria in the same page.

I have a similar request - for a very specific situation:

I need to be able to display Joomla articles from various (different) categories, but in an order that's manually controlled - ie. It's not sorting by date, title or anything else.

Really, it'd be almost identical to the way the Joomla "Featured" articles system works - where you simply flag the articles you want to show, then order them (manually).

On top of all that - I'd like more than one module per page, showing different selections of articles - also sorted manually.

If the module can do all that, then you have a sale!

Do you have a downloadable demo version? I wouldn't mind if it had advertising all over it. It'd only be for a short while, just so I could test whether it can actually do what I'm after.

Yes, you can set the articles manually in the order you want by putting article IDs in a special field.
And yes, you can use several copies on one page. Actually, we've seen many sites totally made up with RAXO All-mode PRO.
Concerning demo, see http://raxo.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=920

@Adam_NZ - I had similar concerns and (happily) was able to get the module to do just what I wanted.

That said - It's nearly unbelievable that the vendor doesn't have a demo site. I can understand not having a downloadable demo version, but setting up a Joomla instance with admin access to the component is pretty easy stuff. Inexcusable.

But as I said at first - the module really does do a great job.

To add to my post that's still to pass moderation ...

It's not a hugely expensive add-on, so I thought I'd answer my own questions by just buying a copy!

I'm glad I did. It's really quite a powerful module - and certainly sorts the way I want it to. I only need to display around 6 articles per module, so plugging in 6 different ID numbers (in the order I want them) is no problem at all.

Well done, RAXO ... I think I'll be using this add-on a LOT :)

Raxo supports sub-categories?

Post by shoune »

hello,
I have a category "market" which contains 3 sub categories.
Is it possible to display all items of these sub-categories sorted by date by selecting the "market" main category, as does joomla 2.5 natively.
best regards

Yes, you can display articles from several subcategories.
To do that you need to select these subcategories in module source selection. The module will display the specified number of articles from these subcategories.

We use this approach because it's the most flexible way. E.g. you parent category contains 10 subcategories, but if you need to display articles only from subcategory #2 and #8, you are still able to do that.
